An interview with Theresa Cordova, founder of the Power of Qs
Theresa: Hello Arjuna, If you would, I would like you start by describing the Dark Night and how it comes about.
Arjuna: Oneness is not a state to be obtained. Oneness is our natural state; it’s the state we’re born into when we’re small babies. And it’s a state that we spontaneously return to, as soon as the nervous system is given any kind of opportunity to relax and let go. Oneness is actually who we are. It’s what’s there when there’s nothing else interfering.
What happens during our lifetime is that all kinds of experiences come our way, which appear in one way or another to be overwhelming, too much. So it means either it could be too much in a negative sense or too much in a positive sense. But either way, it feels like too much; it feels indigestible. And when something happens like that, which feels indigestible, it feels like it’s necessary to push that down into the cells of the body.
So sometimes there may be overwhelming grief; it feels too much to bear. And that grief, instead of being felt, is pushed down into the body. Sometimes it could even be overwhelming sexual desire, which again is too much and instead of feeling it, it has to go into the body. It is not only so-called negative experiences that we experience in that way.
When you have an overwhelmingly positive or negative experience that you don’t want to feel, it gets stored up for a later time when we could feel it, when we would be willing to feel it. And as soon as you relax a little bit, as soon as you go deeply into yourself, which could come through deep meditation, it could be through a retreat, it could be through the oneness blessing, it could be through a prolonged experience. As soon as you go deeply into yourself, whatever you were not willing to feel in the past will naturally gracefully arise as a gift; it will arise to be met. And that is actually what often happens for us. When we go deeply into ourselves, we initially experience life, and love, and bliss, and that feels wonderful because we’re going deep. But pretty soon, there’s enough light, and love, and blissful energy that you are now able to relax and begin to experience what you didn’t want to experience before. And that will create a seemingly negative experience, an experience of what we call "The Dark Night."
Theresa: Why would you then call that a blessing for us to experience all that negativity, that stuff that’s compressed?
Arjuna: Because it’s coming out. If you have been eating junk food all your life and you clean up your act a bit and start eating salad and drinking wheat grass and so on, and after a few weeks toxins start coming out of your body, why would you call that a blessing? Because now you’re getting healthier, because you’re letting go of unhealthy things, you’re coming back to your natural state of health.
Why would I call "The Dark Night" a blessing? Because now you’re letting go of something that was trapped in the body and you’re returning back to your natural state of health with balance, of who you really are.
I think we’re in a wonderful time now, where it’s very rapid acceleration, and there are all kinds of wonderful things we can do to make the whole journey, and more easy.
